So, you think that you'll be one of the lucky ones, eh? One of the survivors... One of the few left AFTER the Apocalypse... Well, good for you! That's why we're here. We're all survivors. Every last one of us (every one of us that's here today, that is--reading this editorial...). We're full of the REAL stuff, you know--the true grit. We're iron men, Road Warriors... That's why we read this stuff, isn't it? That's why read it, write it, devour it, STUDY it... This ain't entertainment--heck, no! We don't read this stuff for kicks or jollies--we've got an ulterior motive here, don't we? We've got a keen interest... Hell, we've got PURPOSE. We're not into this stuff for the bad-ass characters, the higher-than-though themes, or the original plots--we're here for TIPS! We're here hoping to learn a few good tricks for when the Apocalypse come a knockin' at OUR door! We're here to pick up some new techniques on water-gathering, gasoline-foraging, and radiation avoidance. We're here to measure our mettle and guile against that of the writers--to look at their characters and say to ourselves, 'Not bad, but I could do better--hell, when the time comes, I WILL do better.' Let's face it folks--we're just passing the time here while we're waitin' for the real APOCALYPSE! It might be a long wait... but then again, it might not. Who knows? But I'll tell ya this--how better to pass our time, than in the pages of AFM? Rest easy, gentle scavengers--we'll all be bashing mutants in good time. But for now, let's just sit back and relish these days, listen to a few good yarns, and lose ourselves in these visions of the empty Earth.
